More than 250,000 people in the Fiji islands live in poverty and many more live on or just above the poverty line. With a population dispersed over a multiple of islands, efficient delivery of health care, education and other social services is incredibly difficult. Fijian communities, especially those in rural area suffer the most extreme consequences of this poverty. The other reasons would be To say "it is because they don't have natural resources to sell" is like saying "I'm poor because I don't have rich uncle who gave me all his money when he died". Many countries around the world do not have natural resources and they are amongst the wealthiest in the world (like Switzerland and Norway) while many african countries are blessed with abundance of natural resources and yet fall apart
